BACKGROUND A flavivirus designated hepatitis G virus (HGV) has been isolated from the serum of patients with non-A-E hepatitis. Hitherto, the presence of HGV RNA in serum has been detected with the reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) amplification method.
