Nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) is a sensor technology that measures a signature unique to the explosive contained in the mine, thus providing a means of efficiently detecting landmines. Unfortunately, the measured signals are inherently weak and therefore detection times are currently too long (especially for TNT-based landmines) to implement in a man-portable detection system. However, the NQR hardware is light enough to be integrated into a robot based system. This paper investigates…
Nuclear quadrupole resonance for explosive detection Resonancia nuclear en cuadrupolo para la detección de explosivos
Nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) is a spectroscopic technique that can detect explosives of high chemical specificity and therefore it is very suitable for the landmine detection problem. There are

Detection and Discrimination of Land Mines in Ground-Penetrating Radar Based on Edge Histogram Descriptors and a Possibilistic K-Nearest
TLDR
An algorithm for land mine de- tection using sensor data generated by a ground-penetrating radar (GPR) system that uses edge histogram descriptors for feature ex- traction and a possibilistic K-nearest neighbors (K-NNs) rule for confidence assignment and the proposed algo- rithm is implemented and integrated within a complete land mine prototype system.
Detection and Discrimination of Land Mines in Ground-Penetrating Radar Based on Edge Histogram Descriptors and a Possibilistic $K$-Nearest Neighbor Classifier
TLDR
An algorithm for land mine detection using sensor data generated by a ground-penetrating radar (GPR) system that uses edge histogram descriptors for feature extraction and a possibilistic K -nearest neighbors (K-NNs) rule for confidence assignment is described, demonstrating the best performance among several high-performance algorithms.
ROBUST ADAPTIVE METHODS AND THEIR APPLICATIONS IN QUADRUPOLE RESONANCE
TLDR
This dissertation investigates robust adaptive methods for the amplitude estimation of a signal with known arbitrary waveform in the presence of strong RFIs and noise and presents three adaptive finite-impulse response filter based methods to suppress the strong interferences.
Context-Dependent Multisensor Fusion and Its Application to Land Mine Detection
TLDR
Results on large and diverse ground-penetrating radar and wideband electromagnetic data collections show that the proposed method can identify meaningful and coherent clusters and that different expert algorithms can be identified for the different contexts.
Adaptive Local Fusion With Fuzzy Integrals
TLDR
The extensive experiments have indicated that the proposed fusion approach outperforms all individual classifiers, the global fuzzy integral fusion method, and the basic local fusion with linear aggregation.

Detection of RDX and TNT mine-like targets by nuclear quadrupole resonance
TLDR
The results of stand-off detection of buried anti-personnel and anti-tank quantities of RDX and TNT by this system are presented and the differences in the detection of these explosives by NQR are discussed.
Landmine detection with nuclear quadrupole resonance
TLDR
The experimental results show that, unlike the non-adaptive Bayesian detector, the average power detector provides perfect detection capability if the data segments involved in the collection process are sufficiently long.
Mine detection by nuclear quadrupole resonance
Nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) methods of mine detection rely on the observation of radiofrequency (RF) signals from the /sup 14/N nuclei present in the explosive. The frequencies of these
Remote sensing by nuclear quadrupole resonance
TLDR
The important physical principles behind the use of NQR for remote detection are outlined, areas of applicability are indicated, and results of field trials of a prototype landmine detection system are presented.
Nitrogen-14 quadrupole resonance detection of RDX and HMX based explosives
Concerns the use of 14N signals in RDX and HMX. The principle is to subject the quadrupole nuclei to bursts of RF radiation and monitor the signals generated in the quiescent periods between pulses.
