A method based upon the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for detecting genes encoding the Fc receptors of Staphylococcus aureus and streptococci is described. Primers were designed from the nucleotide sequences of the five Fc receptor genes encoding protein A, protein G, protein H, FcRA and protein V. Amplification products corresponding in size to the protein A and protein G genes were detected in S. aureus strain Cowan 1 and Streptococcus pyogenes strain G148, respectively, as expected. Str…

Detection of live/dead Staphylococcus aureus cells based on CdSe quantum dots and propidium iodide fluorescent labeling
TLDR
A method of detecting live/dead Staphylococcus aureus cells was developed based on CdSe quantum dots-immunoglobulin G and propidium iodide fluorescent labeling and showed that Cd Se quantum dots with carboxyl were highly luminescent, stable, and successfully conjugated with the immunoglobeulin G after staining.

TLDR
It is proposed that DNA sequence similarity between these two genes may allow for extragenic homologous recombination as a means of generating antigenic diversity in these two surface proteins.
Gene for an immunoglobulin-binding protein from a group G streptococcus
The gene (spg) for an immunoglobulin G (IgG)-binding protein from a Streptococcus clinical isolate of Lancefield group G was cloned and expressed in Escherichia coli. The complete nucleotide sequence
Streptococcal Fc receptors. I. Isolation and partial characterization of the receptor from a group C streptococcus.
TLDR
The results of the competitive binding studies suggest that the purified Fc receptor behaves as a single receptor, and that the differences in charge and size were probably due to covalently bound cell wall constituents.
The gene sequence and some properties of protein H. A novel IgG-binding protein.
TLDR
The gene for protein H, a novel bacterial cell wall protein with specific affinity for human IgG Fc, was cloned from a group A Streptococcus and expressed in Escherichia coli and no sequence homology was found between protein H and protein A or protein G, two other IgG-bindingacterial cell wall proteins.
Specific absorption of human serum albumin, immunoglobulin A, and immunoglobulin G with selected strains of group A and G streptococci.
TLDR
The binding pattern of albumin to the strains was different from those of IgG, IgA, IgM, fibrinogen, haptoglobin, or aggregated beta 2-microglobulin and therefore seems to represent another type of bacterial-mammalian interaction with a specific albumin receptor on the surface of streptococci.
Regulation of expression of Streptococcus mutans genes important to virulence
TLDR
Studies were initiated to investigate the regulation of Streptococcus mutans genes which are believed to be important to virulence and found that expression of these genes is increased by the presence of sucrose and is followed by a rapid decline in expression over time.
Purification and some properties of streptococcal protein G, a novel IgG-binding reagent.
TLDR
Protein G was found to bind all human IgG subclasses and also rabbit, mouse, and goat IgG, and this novel IgG-binding reagent promises to be of theoretical and practical interest in immunologic research.
