Abstract This study evaluated changes in DNA methylation in Arabidopsis thaliana plants grown from seeds implanted with low-energy N+ and Ar+ ions. Methylation-sensitive amplified polymorphism (MSAP) testing revealed altered DNA methylation patterns after ion implantation at doses of 1 × 1014 to 1 × 1016 ions/cm2. Comparison of the MSAP electrophoretic profiles revealed nine types of polymorphisms in ion-implanted seedlings relative to control seedlings, among which four represented methylation…
Radiation-Induced Epigenetic Bystander Effects Demonstrated in Arabidopsis Thaliana
Root irradiation led to long-distance changes in DNA methylation patterns at some CCGG sites over the whole genome, and the methylation ratios, mainly at CG sites, strongly indicating the existence of RIBE-mediated epigenetic changes in higher plants.
DNA damage and genetic methylation changes caused by Cd in Arabidopsis thaliana seedlings
The DNA damage and methylation changes may be the primary cause of certain pathology changes as a result of Cd uptake in plants.
Epigenetic Variation Induced by Gamma Rays, DNA Methyltransferase Inhibitors, and Their Combination in Rice
Comparative and integrated analyses of the data revealed that both GRs and DNMTis alone have epimutagenic effects and that combined treatment enhanced these effects, providing a foundation for understanding epigenetic variations induced by GRs/DNMTis and for epigenetic mutation breeding.
Root-Specific DNA Methylation in Chloris virgata, a Natural Alkaline-Resistant Halophyte, in Response to Salt and Alkaline Stresses
Alkaline stress was more destructive and complex than salt stress and that the DNA methylation regulation that occurred in the roots might play an important role in the acquirement and inheritance of salt and alkaline stress tolerance.
The point mutation induced by the low-energy N+ ion implantation in Impatiens balsamine genome
Findings indicate that low energy ions being a useful mutagen were mostly cause the point mutation in impatiens.
Methylation sensitive amplified polymorphism (MSAP) reveals that alkali stress triggers more DNA hypomethylation levels in cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) roots than salt stress
The results suggest that more adaptive and possibly complex gene expression alterations could be occurring in the tolerance of the cotton root in response to salt and alkali stresses coupled with DNA methylation alterations, although exclusion physiological mechanisms cannot be ruled out.
Physiological, epigenetic and genetic regulation in some olive cultivars under salt stress
Multidisciplinary approaches, including physiological, epigenetic and genetic studies, have been applied to clarify the salt tolerance mechanisms in olive to assess the effects of salt stress on plant DNA methylation.
Iron deficiency in barley plants: phytosiderophore release, iron translocation, and DNA methylation
Fe deficient Hordeum vulgare L. plants was investigated by monitoring growth, phytosiderophores release, iron content, and translocation, and DNA methylation, with respect to Fe sufficient ones, and resupplied barley showedDNA methylation/demethylation patterns very similar to that of barley grown in Fe deprivation, indicating as these variations/modifications could be transmitted to progenies.
Analysis of ROP signaling in the leaf epidermis of mutant tomato with low-energy ion beam.
This study revealed a link between the low-energy ion beam and the ROP GTPase signaling pathway in tomato and suggested a new mechanism for mutations following low- energy ion beam implantation.
Epigenetics of drought-induced trans-generational plasticity: consequences for range limit development
It is shown that DNA methylation in an upland mustard species may underlie a drought-induced trans-generational tradeoff that may constrain the process of adaptation to stressful environments at lower elevations.

Patterns of cytosine methylation in an elite rice hybrid and its parental lines, detected by a methylation-sensitive amplification polymorphism technique
The results clearly demonstrate that the MSAP technique is highly efficient for large-scale detection of cytosine methylation in the rice genome and believe that the technique can be adapted for use in other plant species.
Analysis of DNA methylation in Arabidopsis thaliana based on methylation-sensitive AFLP markers
Interestingly, the pattern of digestion among different plants belonging to the same ecotype is highly conserved, with the rate of intra-ecotype methylation-sensitive polymorphisms being less than 1%.
Analysis of DNA methylation related to rice adult plant resistance to bacterial blight based on methylation-sensitive AFLP (MSAP) analysis
The results suggest that significant differences in cytosine methylation exist between seedlings and adult plants, and that hypermethylation or hypomethylation of specific genes may be involved in the development of adult plant resistance (APR) in rice plants.
Hypermethylation of tobacco heterochromatic loci in response to osmotic stress
The data suggest epigenetic changes in the plant genome based on de novo methylation of DNA in response to environmental stress.
Antibiotics Induce Genome-wide Hypermethylation in Cultured Nicotiana tabacum Plants*
Analysis of the promoter regions of two single-copy genes showed the hypermethylation to be heterogeneous but biased toward CpGs and the class I chitinase and the auxin-binding protein promoters was not a consequence of a drug-induced gene amplification.
Periodic DNA Methylation in Maize Nucleosomes and Demethylation by Environmental Stress*
When maize seedlings were exposed to cold stress, a genome-wide demethylation occurred in root tissues, and one particular fragment, designated ZmMI1, contained part of the coding region of a putative protein and part of a retrotransposon-like sequence.
Highly Integrated Single-Base Resolution Maps of the Epigenome in Arabidopsis
Comparative Study on Effects of Low Energy N+ Implantation and γ-ray Radiation on Heredity and Development of Arabidopsis Thaliana
In order to compare the contemporary and genetic variation effect on Arabidopsis thaliana treated with N+ implantation and ?-ray radiation, the authors did some statistical comparison on the
Transgenerational changes in the genome stability and methylation in pathogen-infected plants
It is found that the progeny of plants that received a virus-induced systemic signal that increased the somatic and meiotic recombination rates in tobacco mosaic virus-infected tobacco plants also have a higher frequency of rearrangements in the loci carrying the homology to LRR region of the gene of resistance to TMV (N-gene).
