Accumulating evidence suggests that Borna disease virus (BDV), a neurotropic, negative-stranded RNA virus, might be associated with certain human mental disorders. Several research groups reported that psychiatric patients had a significantly higher prevalence of BDV serum antibodies than normal controls.
