We revisit here a previous argument due to Wald showing the impossibility of turning an extremal Kerr-Newman black hole into a naked singularity by plunging test particles across the black hole event horizon. We extend Wald's analysis to the case of near-extremal black holes and show that it is indeed possible to destroy their event horizon, giving rise to naked singularities, by pushing test particles towards the black hole as, in fact, it has been demonstrated explicitly by several recent…

Destroying a Kerr Black Hole

Based on three fundamentals aspects presented by Penrose, Wald, and Hawking, the black hole’s destroying scenario can be made. The main problem of this destroying process is about the presence of

Gedanken experiments to destroy a BTZ black hole

We consider Gedanken experiments to destroy an extremal or near-extremal Banados-Teitelboim-Zanelli (BTZ) black hole by throwing matter into the horizon. These black holes are vacuum solutions to

Weak cosmic censorship, dyonic Kerr–Newman black holes and Dirac fields

It was investigated recently, with the aim of testing the weak cosmic censorship conjecture, whether an extremal Kerr black hole can be converted into a naked singularity by interaction with a

Kerr–Newman black holes can be generically overspun

We construct thought experiments involving the perturbations of Kerr–Newman black holes by neutral test fields to evaluate the validity of the weak form of the cosmic censorship conjecture. We first

Overspinning Kerr-MOG black holes by test fields and the third law of black hole dynamics

We evaluate the validity of the weak form of the cosmic censorship conjecture and the third law of black hole dynamics for Kerr-MOG black holes interacting with test scalar fields. Ignoring

Destroying a Near-Extremal Kerr-Newman-AdS Black Hole with Test Particles

If radiative and self-force effects are neglected, we find that feeding a test particle into a near-extremal Kerr-Newman-AdS black hole could lead to destroy their event horizon, giving rise to naked

Destroying charged black holes in higher dimensions with test particles

A possible way to destroy the Tangherlini Reissner–Nordstrom black hole is discussed in the spirit of Wald’s gedanken experiment. By neglecting radiation and self force effects, the absorbing

Weak cosmic censorship conjecture in Kerr black holes of modified gravity

By neglecting the effects of self-force and radiation, we investigate the possibility of destroying the Kerr-MOG black hole through the point particle absorption process. Using the instability of

Over-spinning Kerr–Sen black holes with test fields

In this work, we investigate validity of the weak form of the cosmic censorship conjecture in the interaction of Kerr–Sen black holes with neutral test fields. Previous studies of the Klein–Gordon

Investigating the gedanken experiment to destroy the event horizon of a regular black hole

Recently, Li and Bambi proposed a hypothesis that the event horizon of a regular black hole can be destroyed because these objects have no gravitational singularity and therefore they are not
