Abstract

Serotonin N-acetyltransferase (arylalkylamine N-acetyltransferase, AANAT) is the penultimate enzyme in melatonin (5-methoxy-N-acetyltryptamine) biosynthesis. It is the key-enzyme responsible of the nocturnal rhythm of melatonin production in the pineal gland.
