In this paper, the design of a switched reluctance motor (SRM) having torque, power, speed-range, and efficiency values competitive to those of the interior permanent-magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) employed in the 2009 Toyota Prius has been investigated. The outer diameter and axial length are the same as those of the IPMSM. A maximum torque of 207 N·m is needed up to the knee speed of 2768 r/min.
