In this chapter we review simulated moving bed (SMB) design methods for binary systems with particular focus on the “triangle theory” based on equilibrium models for linear and nonlinear adsorption isotherms. An analytical solution of the true moving bed (TMB) is presented for linear systems. The effect of mass transfer resistances on the separation region is analyzed.
