The design of the submerged vane, a flow training structure for sediment management in rivers, is optimized using a Genetic Algorithm. The vane considered in this study has a foil-like sectional profile and a tapered outline. The sectional profile of the vane is based on two types of shape formulations: (1) NACA's four-digit wing profiles, and (2) profiles comprising two Bezier splines.
