TLDR
A negative interaction between these helminths leading alteration in immune response of the host, adverse to S. venezuelensis infection is suggested. Expand
Current applications of oogram methodology in experimental schistosomiasis; fecundity of female Schistosoma mansoni and egg release in the intestine of AKR/J mice following immunomodulatory treatment with pentoxifylline
Abstract Oogram methodology permitted a direct assessment of the fecundity of Schistosoma mansoni and the passage of parasite eggs from mesenteric vessels into the intestinal lumen in AKR/J mice thatExpand
Strongyloides venezuelensis: efeito de antimicrobiano e imunossupressor no curso da infecção em camundongos da linhagem AKR/J
TLDR
The results indicate that the interference of treatments in the population of intestinal microbiota favours the parasitism by Strongyloides venezuelensis. Expand
Exploring possibilities for an alternative approach in experimental schistosomiasis mansoni: the peritoneal cavity of mice
TLDR
The constitution and evolution of these cellular reactions at histology were similar to that of hepatic granuloma, and peritoneal granulomata were subject to the host immunomodulation. Expand
Phenotypic plasticity of male Schistosoma mansoni from the peritoneal cavity and hepatic portal system of laboratory mice and hamsters
TLDR
The present results reinforce the idea that S. mansoni has high plastic potential and adaptive capacity and significant morphometric alterations were observed when worms recovered from the portal system of both strains of mice were compared with the schistosomes obtained from hamsters. Expand
New insights into the reaction of Schistosoma mansoni cercaria to the human complement system
TLDR
Culturing complement-exposed cercariae to measure long-term survival showed that more parasites died over time, but the surviving parasites were able to form a new tegument as shown by detection of SGTP4 on the parasite surface. Expand
Experimental infection of Swiss and AKR/J mice with Centrocestus formosanus (Trematoda: Heterophyidae).
TLDR
The data obtained confirm that mice are susceptible to infection with C. formosanus and indicate that the AKR/J strain provides a more favorable environment for parasite development. Expand
Development and pathology of Fasciola hepatica in CCL3-deficient mice.
TLDR
This work demonstrates that the development of F. hepatica is not affected by the absence of CCL3, and the CC-group of chemokines plays a crucial role in the attraction of several cell types and in the recruitment of additional macrophages to an inflammatory focus in numerous diseases. Expand

TLDR
The data indicate that although eosinophils may be involved in this protection their presence alone is not sufficient to afford acquired resistance to murine schistosomiasis mansoni. Expand
Schistosoma mansoni: the role of the complement C3-activating system in the cercaricidal action of normal serum.
TLDR
Data indicate that the cercaricidal action of normal sera is dependent on the complement system, activation of the system proceeding through the alternate (properdin) pathway. Expand
Host cell adhesion to Schistosoma mansoni larvae in the peritoneal cavity of naive mice. Histological and scanning electron microscopic studies.
TLDR
Results suggest that the neutrophils recognize molecules on the cercarial surface which induce their spreading, and that the cell detachment is progressive and simultaneous toThe cercaria-schistosomule transformation. Expand
Neutrophil‐mediated cytotoxicity to schistosomula of Schistosoma mansoni in vitro: studies on the kinetics of complement and/or antibody‐dependent adherence and killing
TLDR
The capacity of rat peritoneal neutrophils to adhere to and kill schistosomula of Schistosoma mansoni in vitro has been investigated and the possible participation of neutrophil in the destruction of a primary and/or challenge infection in vivo is discussed. Expand
Post-cercarial development of Schistosoma mansoni in the rabbit and hamster after intraperitoneal and percutaneous infection.
TLDR
It is agreed by most authorities that the normal route of migration of the schistosomes of man which gain access to the mammalian host by penetration of the skin is as follows. Expand
Ultrastructural analysis of the cellular response to Schistosoma mansoni. III. The in vitro granuloma.
TLDR
Documentation that formation of the in vitro granuloma closely recapitulates the in vivo process further confirms the potential usefulness of this model in analyzing the physiologic and immunologic mechanisms involved in granulomatous hypersensitivity and fibrosis. Expand
Ultrastructural analysis of the cellular response to Schistosoma mansoni. II. Inflammatory responses in rodent skin.

TLDR
The results suggest that, whilst male stimulation is not necessary to initiate vitelline gland development and egg production, it appears to be essential for the complete maturation of the ovary. Expand
Strongyloides ratti: susceptibility to infection and resistance to reinfection in inbred strains of mice as assessed by excretion of larvae.
TLDR
It is suggested that S. ratti infections of C57B1/6 and CBA mice provide a useful model for the investigation of factors influencing the host-parasite relationship in strongyloidiasis. Expand
Trichinella spiralis: anaphylactic antibody formation and susceptibility in strains of inbred mice.
TLDR
The pattern of response of all strains was very reproducible, indicating genetic control of the anaphylactic antibody production to the infection, and an inverse relationship between the number of larvae recovered from a given strain and their reaginic antibody titer was observed. Expand
