Many G protein-coupled receptor-mediated responses desensitize within minutes. Sustained stimulation of mu-opioid receptors (MORs), which primarily signal through G(i/o) proteins, leads to activation and subsequent desensitization of G protein-coupled inwardly rectifying potassium (GIRK) currents.
