  • This study is an attempt to investigate several aspects of private education in relation to desegregation in the nation, the eleven Southern states, and North Carolina. The history of private schools and the evolution of the Southern academies are examined along with the alternative schools which have been proposed since the Brown decision of 1954 and the initiation of forced busing.
