Summary Sporangium forming isolates of actinomycetes, isolated from soil by a baiting technique utilizing hair, were identified as species of the genus Pilimelia. Representative isolates were compared with the type strains of Pilimelia terevasa and Pilimelia anulata. Pilimelia isolates can be cultivated only on complex media forming small, compact colonies. Because of differences in the morphology of sporangia and colonial and physiological characteristics from species already known, the… Expand
28 The Family Micromonosporaceae
Since the last edition of The Prokaryotes, most microorganisms grouped in the chapter ‘‘The genus Actinoplanes and Related Genera’’ have been formally classified in the family Micromonosporaceae,Expand
The Genus Actinoplanes and Related Genera
TLDR
The members of the actinoplanetes can now be harbored taxonomically in the newly defined family Micromonosporaceae, and those of the maduromycetes belong in the family Streptosporangiaceae. Expand
Amycolatopsis keratiniphila sp. nov., a novel keratinolytic soil actinomycete from Kuwait.
TLDR
The conclusion was made that strain D2(T) represented a novel species within the genus Amycolatopsis, for which the name Amycol atopsis keratiniphila is proposed. Expand

Pseudonocardia compacta sp.nov.
TLDR
The new mesophilic species Pseudonocardia compacta was isolated from soil and is characterized by densely aggregated substrate and aerial hyphae that frequently bear apical and intercalary swellings, by thick-walled spores, by white aerial mycelium and by being mesophobic. Expand
PROPOSED GROUP OF CHARACTERS FOR THE SEPARATION OF STREPTOMYCES AND NOCARDIA
TLDR
An attempt has been made to find a group of dependable properties for the separation of Streptomyces from the strains of Nocardia whose colonial morphology resembles that of the StrePTomyces, and a small group of properties which gave promise of assistance in the recognition of the two taxa are proposed. CHEMICAL COMPOSITION OF CELL-WALL PREPARATIONS FROM STRAINS OF VARIOUS FORM-GENERA OF AEROBIC ACTINOMYCETES.
TLDR
Cell-wall preparations were made from more than 140 strains of aerobic actinomycetes representing most of the form-genera that have been proposed and contained as major constituents glucosamine, muramic acid, alanine, and glutamic acid. Expand
Chemical composition as a criterion in the classification of aerobic actinomycetes
TLDR
The results show that whole-cell sugar patterns can usually be used to predict cell wall composition and that the combination of both criteria permit separation of aerobic actinomycetes into 10 taxonomically useful groups. Expand
