Four children with previously repaired myelomeningoceles presented toward the end of the first decade or early in the second decade of life with deteriorating lower-extremity and bladder function. Myelography and computerized tomography scanning demonstrated irregular filling defects at the area of the myelomeningocele repair, and surgical exploration disclosed dermoid tumors that were adherent to the placode and adjacent roots. Dermoid tumors should be considered in the differential diagnosis…
Congenital dermoid tumor in a child at initial myelomeningocele closure: an etiological discussion.
TLDR
This case provides evidence that dermoid tumors occurring at the site of previous surgical myelomeningocele repair are not always a consequence of incomplete excision of the dermal elements.
Lumbosacral non-terminal myelocystocele associated with teratoma: case report and review of literature
TLDR
A rare case of an infant with a lumbosacral non-terminal myelocystocele and accompanying mature teratoma is reported in whom the tumor was attached to the placode not as a part of the sac.
Intramedullary spinal epidermoid presenting after thoracic meningocele repair: case report.
TLDR
This case illustrates the potential for delayed development of intraspinal epidermoid after initial repair of a simple meningocele.
Intraspinal epidermoid cyst occurring 15 years after lipomyelomeningocele repair. Case report.
TLDR
The authors report the case of a spinal epidermoid cyst that developed in a patient who had undergone surgery for lipomyelomeningocele repair 15 years earlier, and revealed a cystic intraspinal mass that extended from L-2 to L-5.
Lumbar Intramedullary Epidermoid Following Repair of Sacral Myelomeningocele and Tethered Cord: A Case Report With a Review of the Relevant Literature and Operative Nuances
TLDR
A rare case of a lumbar intramedullary and extramedULLary epidermoid occurring at a level higher than the previous surgical site is presented, along with a discussion of the causes of such an occurrence and operative nuances regarding the management of an intramingullary epidersmoid in a pediatric patient.
Dermoid inclusion cysts and early spinal cord tethering after fetal surgery for myelomeningocele.
TLDR
Three girls under one year of age who had loss of motor function in the legs or loss of bladder function after in utero repair of myelomeningocele at 22 to 24 weeks of gestation are reported on.
Untethered Filum terminale Presenting as Cauda equina Lesion
TLDR
The case of a young girl with recurrent bladder dysfunction, found to have an untethered, thickened, coiled filum terminale at L2, who underwent an L5 laminectomy and cord untethering by sectioning of the filum Terminale.
Spinal extradural inclusion dermoid cyst mimicking pseudomeningocele, appearing after 17 years of meningomyelocele repair
TLDR
A case of dermoid cyst in a 17-year-old boy appearing after lumbar meningomyelocele repair at 2 months of age is reported, with improvement in foot weakness with magnetic resonance imaging showing no residual or recurrent lesion.
Ruptured dermoid cyst of the conus medullaris in the myelomeningocele sac revealed at the initial repair surgery
TLDR
It is speculated that rupture of the dermoid cyst also occurred and dissemination of the cyst contents caused chemical arachnoiditis in the MMC sac at the age of 1 day.

Tethered spinal cord following meningomyelocele repair.
TLDR
Of 16 consecutive patients with tethered spinal cord studied, most had undergone repair of a meningomyelocele and metrizamide myelography with polytomography was superior to gasMyelography in showing a low-lying cord, obtuse nerve root angles, and a thin subarachnoid space between the cord and the dorsal meninges cephalad to the tether.
Spinal dermoid tumours.
TLDR
A detailed analysis of 12 cases of spinal dermoid tumours operated on between 1935 and 1976 finds that most of the tumours were located in the spinal canal and conus.

TLDR
Clinical and radiological evidence of spina bifida was found in about half of the cases and suggested the diagnosis of a developmental type of tumor when patients presented with progressive spinal cord compression, and evacuation of the cystic contents gave lasting relief of the low-back pain.

Donald D. Matson has completely revised this comprehensive neurosurgical monograph and has almost doubled its content, including an extensive section on epilepsy, including the surgical therapy of temporal lobe epilepsy, the Sturge-Weber syndrome, and infantile hemiplegia with epilepsy.
