The simulation of the interaction of two simultaneously propagating air streamers of the same polarity is presented. A parametric study has been carried out using an accurate numerical method, which ensures a time–space error control of the solution. For initial separation of both streamers smaller than or comparable to the longest characteristic absorption length of photoionization in air, we have found that the streamers tend to merge at the moment when the ratio between their characteristic…

Three‐Dimensional Modeling of Two Interacting Streamers

Interacting streamers are commonly found in natural plasma discharges, such as lightning, jets and sprites, but are poorly understood at present. In this paper, we report a three‐dimensional modeling

Two-dimensional numerical study of two counter-propagating helium plasma jets in air at atmospheric pressure

In this paper, a computational study of two counter-propagating helium plasma jets in ambient air is presented. A two-dimensional fluid model is applied to investigate the physical processes of the

Predicting streamer discharge front splitting by ionization seed profiling

There has been extensive research on the branching mechanisms of streamer discharges. A consistent link between theories and experiments, which can enable prediction or even control of streamer front

Modeling of streamer interaction with localized plasma regions

Streamer interaction with localized quasi-neutral (electron-ion and ion-ion) and charged plasma clouds is simulated using a 2D fluid model. Depending on the type of plasma and the densities of

Numerical and experimental study on atmospheric pressure ionization waves propagating through a U-shape channel

A 2D computational study of ionization waves propagating in U-shape channels at atmospheric pressure was performed, with emphasis on the effect of voltage polarity and the curvature of the bend. The

Complex interaction of subsequent surface streamers via deposited charge: a high-resolution experimental study

The coplanar barrier discharge in synthetic air at 30 kPa pressure was studied by time-correlated single photon counting enhanced optical emission spectroscopy, far-field microscopy enhanced

Growing discharge trees with self-consistent charge transport: the collective dynamics of streamers

We introduce the generic structure of a growth model for branched discharge trees that consistently combines a finite channel conductivity with the physical law of charge conservation. It is

Complex Plasmoid Behaviors in Dusty Plasma Experiments

In this paper, we report on a particularly impressive feature of dusty plasma instabilities where moving bright plasma spots (plasmoids) appear in between the electrodes of a low-pressure

COMPLEX PLASMOID BEHAVIORS IN DUSTY PLASMA EXPERIMENTS MAXIME MIKIKIAN, HAGOP TAWIDIAN AND THOMAS LECAS

In this paper, we report on a particularly impressive feature of dusty plasma instabilities where moving bright plasma spots (plasmoids) appear in between the electrodes of a low-pressure
