This paper describes the ROAR project. ROAR is an acronym for Reliability Obtained By Adaptive Reconfiguration . Adaptive Computing System (ACS) environments provide opportunities for dependable computing solutions. We identify some of the issues in traditional dependable computing solutions. We show that adaptive and reconfigurable environments address these issues and also enable new innovative techniques that enhance the dependability of systems.
