Athermal steady-state plastic flows were simulated for the Kob-Andersen binary Lennard-Jones system and its repulsive version in which the sign of the attractive terms is changed to a plus. Properties evaluated include the distributions of energy drops, stress drops, and strain intervals between the flow events. We show that simulations at a single density in conjunction with an equilibrium-liquid simulation at the same density allow one to predict the plastic flow-event statistics at other…

Good collapse of the statistical data is found, showing that isomorph theory works well in this regime of Kob-Andersen binary Lennard-Jones system and a clear signature of avalanche behavior in the form of an exponential tail on the negative side is identified.

Supercooled liquids are characterized by relaxation times that increase dramatically by cooling or compression. From a single assumption follows a scaling law according to which the relaxation time…

The numerical results suggest that the microscopic friction is a key ingredient of mean-field descriptions and plays a crucial role in avalanches observed in real materials.

The proposed theory implies that R-simple glass-forming liquids are characterized by the dynamic Prigogine-Defay ratio being equal to unity, which is in turn implied by the Langevin equation.

The dynamics of liquids, regarded as strongly-interacting classical particle systems, remains a field where theoretical descriptions are limited. So far, there is no microscopic theory starting from…

A constant-potential-energy (NVU)-based proof of quasiuniversality is presented, and quasiunIVERSality is illustrated by showing that the structure of the Lennard-Jones system at four state points is well approximated by those of EXP pair-potentially systems with the same reduced diffusion constant.

Explaining why simple liquids are quasi-universal.
- PhysicsNature communications
- 2014
It is shown that a liquid is quasi-universal if its pair potential can be written approximately as a sum of exponential terms with numerically large prefactors, and conjecture that quasi-universality only applies for systems with this property.
