The development of simple and intuitive interactive deformation techniques for point-based models is essential if they have to find wide-spread application in different domains. In this paper we describe an interactive technique for deforming the surface of a point-based model by adapting a physically-based mesh-free shape deformation formulation to work with input from an electronic glove. Each finger tip of the glove forms a point probe whose movement into/away from the surface is used as a…

Touch-Based Haptics for Interactive Editing on Point Set Surfaces

A modeling paradigm for haptics-based editing on point set surfaces exploits implicit surfaces, physics-based modeling, point-sampled surfaces, and haptic to generalize to other relevant applications such as data modeling and human-computer interaction.

Extended free-form deformation: a sculpturing tool for 3D geometric modeling

The purpose of this research is to define a highly interactive and intuitive modeling technique for designers and stylists that can mimic traditional trades, such as sculpturing and moulding.

Free-form deformation of solid geometric models

A technique is presented for deforming solid geometric models in a free-form manner based on trivariate Bernstein polynomials, and provides the designer with an intuitive appreciation for its effects.

Point based animation of elastic, plastic and melting objects

The physical model is derived from continuum mechanics, which allows the specification of common material properties such as Young's Modulus and Poisson's Ratio and it is demonstrated how to solve the equations of motion based on these forces, with both explicit and implicit integration schemes.

Local Deformation for Animation of Implicit Surfaces

A new, simple and efficient method for calculating local deformations to be applied to implicit surfaces during collisions with other objects or between different parts of one object is proposed.

Pointshop 3D: an interactive system for point-based surface editing

A system for interactive shape and appearance editing of 3D point-sampled geometry by generalizing conventional 2D pixel editors and incorporating a novel concept for interactive point cloud parameterization allowing for distortion minimal and aliasing-free texture mapping.

Shape modeling with point-sampled geometry

A shape modeling system that enables the designer to perform large constrained deformations as well as boolean operations on arbitrarily shaped objects and shows that strict topology control is possible and sharp features can be generated and preserved on point-sampled objects.

Mesh‐free deformations

A mesh‐free deformation technique where only unconnected points are involved and the trade‐off between efficiency and accuracy is easy to achieve by redistributing the points concerned.

Haptic B-spline Surface Sculpting with a Shaped Tool of Implicit Surface

A new implicit to B- Spline surface haptic interface is proposed and a new haptic sculpting system for B-spline surfaces with a shaped implicit surface probe/tool is presented, which may help introduce new modeling techniques.

Interactive Animation of Structured Deformable Objects

A stable and efficient algorithm for animating mass-spring systems through the use of a predictor-corrector approach, which provides a simple, stable and tunable model for deformable objects suitable for virtual reality.
