Deformation twinning, which is a type of plastic deformation, has been particularly investigated in metal materials. However, only a few examples are found in organic solids. We observed mechanical twinning deformation on a simple ferrocene crystal, which is considered the most representative organometallic compound, and evaluated the crystal structures under the twinning state and the shear deformation characteristics by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis and uniaxial compression tests…

Photoluminescent Ferroelastic Molecular Crystals.
TLDR
The first examples of ferroelastic luminescent organometallic crystals, which show mechanical-stress-induced shape change under twinning and/or spontaneous formation of strain, are discovered.
Enhancement of dissipated energy by large bending of an organic single crystal undergoing twinning deformation
We demonstrate exceptional twinning deformation in a molecular crystal upon application of mechanical stress. Crystal integrity is preserved and the deformation is associated with a large bending
A Multidirectional Superelastic Organic Crystal by Versatile Ferroelastical Manipulation
Mechanical twinning changes atomic, molecular, and crystal orientations along with directions of the anisotropic properties of the crystalline materials while maintaining single crystallinity in each
Ferroelasticity in an Organic Crystal: A Macroscopic and Molecular Level Study.
TLDR
The first example of ferroelasticity in an organic molecular crystal of 5-chloro-2-nitroaniline is presented, with thorough characterization by macro- and microscopic methods, and the observed cyclic stress-strain curve satisfies the requirements of ferromagnetism.
Twinning ferroelasticity facilitated by the partial flipping of phenyl rings in single crystals of 4,4′-dicarboxydiphenyl ether
TLDR
Evidence of ferroelasticity in a non-planar organic molecular crystal is presented for 4,4′-dicarboxydiphenyl ether and the underlying mechanism involves the partial flipping of phenyl rings.
Shape Rememorization of an Organosuperelastic Crystal via Superelasticity-Ferroelasticity Interconversion.
TLDR
The revealed shape rememorization ability in the organosuperelastic crystal indicates the compatibility of superelasticity and ferroelasticity as well as the intrinsic workability of organic crystalline materials capable of restoring their crystal functions.
Controllability of coercive stress in organoferroelasticity by the incorporation of a bulky flipping moiety in molecular crystals
The control of coercive stress in organoferroelasticity is demonstrated in single crystals of trans-1,4-cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid with bulky cyclohexane rings. Flipping difficulty, due to the
Solid-state study of the structure and host-guest chemistry of cucurbituril-ferrocene inclusion complexes.
TLDR
Thermogravimetric analysis for the inclusion compounds reveals that sublimation of Fc is inhibited by molecular encapsulation to the extent that oxidative decomposition of the organoiron species takes place concurrently with cucurbituril decomposition, leading to the formation of hematite, α-Fe2O3.

TLDR
Through nanoindentation it is possible to correlate molecular-level properties such as crystal packing, interaction characteristics, and the inherent anisotropy with micro/macroscopic events such as desolvation, domain coexistence, layer migration, polymorphism, and solid-state reactivity.

TLDR
Techniques show that adipic acid particles crystallized in the presence of added monoalkanoic acids are not twinned but rather are disordered single crystals comprising a small number of slightly misaligned domains.
