PURPOSE Congenital stromal corneal dystrophy (CSCD) is characterized by stromal opacities that morphologically are seen as interlamellar layers of amorphous substance with small filaments, the nature of which has hitherto been unknown. CSCD is associated with truncating mutations in the decorin gene (DCN).
