Some 60 years ago, many biologists thought that bees and other insects were totally color-blind animals. I was unable to believe it. For the bright colors of flowers can be understood only as an adaptation to color-sensitive visitors. This was the beginning of experiments on the color sense of the bee (I). On a table outdoors I placed a colored paper between papers of different shades of gray and on it I laid a small glass dish filled with sugar syrup. Bees from a nearby hive could be trained…
DISCUSSION PAPER: THE EVOLUTION OF DISTANCE COMMUNICATION IN BEES
TLDR
An alternative mathematical description is presented, a description of the same general type that has also been found to fit human psychophysical data, of the “tail-wagging” dance and its relationship to the distance flown from the food source to the hive.
Communicative Coordination in Bees
Bees are important pollinators for plants, which would not be able to produce fruits without them. Since Karl von Frisch’s work it has been evident that the highly complex social behaviour of bee
Einstein, von Frisch and the honeybee: a historical letter comes to light
TLDR
A previously unknown letter by the Physicist and Nobel Laureate Albert Einstein that was written in October 1949 is reported on, which briefly addresses the work of von Frisch and also queries how understanding animal perception and navigation may lead to innovations in physics.
Can social bees be influenced to choose a specific feeding station by adding the scent of the station to the hive air?
TLDR
The behavioral response of honeybees and bumblebees to the flower volatiles 2-ethyl-1-hexanol and myrcene isolated in situ from white clover and oil seed rape were investigated and the observed influences of addition of scents to the hives are discussed.
Dancing bees speak in a code-A Review
TLDR
A broad overview of the research done on dance communication, earlier theories, and their controversies and solution is provided to help in better understanding the significance of different types of dances performed by honeybees in and outside the hive.
Analysis of Honeybee Drone Activity during the Mating Season in Northwestern Argentina
TLDR
The objective was to describe the activity of Apis mellifera drones during the mating season in Northwestern Argentina using three methods: direct observation, video recording, and radio frequency identification (RFID).
Bees as Biosensors: Chemosensory Ability, Honey Bee Monitoring Systems, and Emergent Sensor Technologies Derived from the Pollinator Syndrome
TLDR
This review focuses on critical milestones in the development path for the use of bees, mainly honey bees and bumble bees, as sentinels and biosensors, which when coupled with emerging tracking and mapping technologies create novel potential for research, as well as bee and crop management.

Die Schwereorientierung der Bienen unter dem Einfluß des Erdmagnetfeldes
TLDR
Amplifications of the magnetic field up to an unbiological degree result in a more pronounced dispersion regarding the indication of the direction in the waggle dance.

TLDR
Diese Unterschiede im angeborenen Tanztempo führen in Mischvölkern zu Mißverständnissen über die Entfernung des Futterplatzes, which ist gleichfalls charakteristisch für die einzelnen Rassen.
