The mechanism for energy and signal transport in proteins as suggested by Davydov is discussed. The idea is based on a coupling of amide-I oscillators to acoustic phonons in a hydrogen bonded chain. Results as obtained with the usually used ansätze are discussed. The quality of these states for an approximate solution of the time-dependent Schrödinger equation is investigated. It is found that the semiclassical ansatz is a poor approximation, while the more sophisticated |D1> state seems to…

On the quantum dynamics of Davydov solitons in proteinα-helices

Mixed quantum classical simulations of excitons in peptide helices.

The authors' simulations indicate that the excitation frequently becomes localized on the end of the helix due to the defect in helical structure caused by unwinding, and generally do not support the existence of Davydov type solitons in biological helix systems under physiological conditions.

Dynamics of energy distribution in three channel alpha helix protein based on Davydov’s ansatz

An important aspect of many biological processes at molecular level is the transfer and storage mechanism of bioenergy released in the reaction of the hydrolysis of Adenosinetriphosphate (ATP) by

Phase space trajectories and Lyapunov exponents in the dynamics of an alpha-helical protein lattice with intra- and inter-spine interactions.

The nonlinear dynamics of intra- and inter-spine interaction models of alpha-helical proteins is investigated by proposing a Hamiltonian using the first quantized operators. Hamilton's equations of

Influence of quadrupole–quadrupole-type interaction on the chaotic dynamics of $$\alpha $$α-helical proteins

By proposing a model Hamiltonian in the first quantised form we investigate the chaotic dynamics of $$\alpha $$α-helical proteins by taking into account the quadrupole–quadrupole-type interaction.
