On one hand, conventional isotopic instruments (TIMS or gas source mass spectrometer) become more and more powerful allowing to date geological events with an increasing precision, below 1 Ma. On the other hand, the high resolution ion microprobes allow to reduce the size of the studied mineralogical domains down to 20 μm. A rapid overview of methods is proposed as well as a recent application of the related isotope techniques.
