The database structure and data manipulation capabilities of a generalized PICture Database Management System (PICDMS) are presented. They are based on a dynamic, stacked-image, logical database structure that uses gridded, rather than topological, data representation. A prototype PICDMS has been designed and implemented. A commercial version is being used as a generator of image processing programs. The system has novel capabilities for nonprogrammer users: it is able to 1) build multiple… Expand
Image Database Management
TLDR
The chapter discusses some examples of the existing image database management systems classifying them as first, second, and third generation database systems, and focuses on the similarity retrieval in image database systems. Expand

This paper proposes access methods, to different extents of precision, for retrieval of desired images encoded in 2-D B-strings, which provides an efficient way to retrieve images in image databases. Expand
Spatial query processing in an object-oriented database system
TLDR
This work unifies much of the work on spatial query processing capabilities by identifying common principles and distilling them into a small set of constructs that can be supported with only minor modifications to current DBMS implementations. Expand
PROBE Spatial Data Modeling in an Image Database and Query Processing Application
TLDR
S PROBE’S spatial data model and geometry filter are described, and it is shown how these facilities can be used to support image database applications. Expand
PROBE Spatial Data Modeling and Query Processing in an Image Database Application
TLDR
An overview of PROBE is provided, focusing on the facilities for dealing with spatial and temporal data, and how thePROBE database system and simple application-specific object classes combine to efficiently support PROBe's spatial data model. Expand
Management of multidimensional discrete data
TLDR
A set of requirements is developed, a small set of language constructs are proposed (based on a formal algebraic semantics), and a novel MDD architecture is outlined to provide the basis for efficient MDD query evaluation. Expand
Architecture for distributed multimedia database systems
TLDR
A set of f functional requirements is identified for a multimedia server considering database management, object synchronization and integration, and multimedia query processing for a distributed system. Expand
