The database structure and data manipulation capabilities of a generalized PICture Database Management System (PICDMS) are presented. They are based on a dynamic, stacked-image, logical database structure that uses gridded, rather than topological, data representation. A prototype PICDMS has been designed and implemented. A commercial version is being used as a generator of image processing programs. The system has novel capabilities for nonprogrammer users: it is able to 1) build multiple…

An Architecture for Distributed Multimedia Database Systems 1
TLDR
A set of functional requirements for a multimedia server considering database management, object synchronization and integration, and multimedia query processing is identified.
PROBE Spatial Data Modeling and Query Processing in an Image Database Application
TLDR
An overview of PROBE is provided, focusing on the facilities for dealing with spatial and temporal data, and how thePROBE database system and simple application-specific object classes combine to efficiently support PROBe's spatial data model.
Management of multidimensional discrete data
TLDR
A set of requirements is developed, a small set of language constructs are proposed (based on a formal algebraic semantics), and a novel MDD architecture is outlined to provide the basis for efficient MDD query evaluation.
Spatial Database Organization for Multi-attribute Sensor Data Representation
This paper surveys spatial database organization and modelling as it is becoming a crucial issue for an ever increasing number of geometric data manipulation systems. We are here interested in
An Intelligent Image Database System
TLDR
A prototype intelligent image database system (IIDS) that is based on a novel pictorial data structure that supports spatial reasoning, flexible image information retrieval, visualization, and traditional image database operations is presented.
PICQUERY: A High Level Query Language for Pictorial Database Management
A reasonably comprehensive set of data accessing and manipulation operations that should be supported by a generalized pictorial database management system (PDBMS) is proposed. A corresponding

Manipulating Data Structures in Pictorial Information Systems
Spatial data handling systems generally use either topological or grid image data structures. It makes little sense for these systems to be incompatible.

Picture Query Languages for Pictorial Data-Base Systems
Integrated pictorial data-base systems need pictorial query languages to enhance their effectiveness. The tabular structures of QPE, IQ, and others are easy to understand and access.
