Rational approximation schemes for reconstructing periodic signals from samples with poorly separated spectral content are described. These methods are automatic and adaptive, requiring no tuning or manual parameter selection. Collectively, they form a framework for fitting trigonometric rational models to data that is robust to various forms of corruption, including additive Gaussian noise, perturbed sampling grids, and missing data. Our approach combines a variant of Prony’s method with a…

ESPRIT versus ESPIRA for reconstruction of short cosine sums and its application

Two algorithms for stable approximation with and recovery of short cosine sums are introduced, based on rational approximation of DCT data and can be understood as a matrix pencil method for special Loewner matrices.

Practical challenges in data-driven interpolation: dealing with noise, enforcing stability, and computing realizations

: In this contribution, we propose a detailed study of interpolation-based data-driven methods that are of relevance in the model reduction and also in the systems and control communities. The data

AAA interpolation of equispaced data

AAA rational approximation is proposed as a method for interpolating or approximating smooth functions from equispaced samples and gives more accurate approximations than other methods, which may be either exponentially accurate and exponentially unstable, or less accurate and stable, depending on implementation.

AAA rational approximation on a continuum

A continuum AAA algorithm that discretizes a domain adaptively as it goes enables fast computation of high-accuracy rational approximations on domains such as the unit interval, the unit circle, and the imaginary axis.

Rational approximation of frequency domain responses by vector fitting

The paper describes a general methodology for the fitting of measured or calculated frequency domain responses with rational function approximations. This is achieved by replacing a set of starting

Generalized Rational Variable Projection With Application in ECG Compression

An adaptive transform-domain technique based on rational function systems based on the well-known particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm, designed especially for the rational transforms in question, that outperforms other transformation techniques.

Rational Function Systems in ECG Processing

This approach has advantages over the previously used transformation methods, for instance the system is designed particularly for ECG signals in the sense that the shape of the individual terms correspond to the natural segmentation of the signal.

Nonlinear approximation by sums of nonincreasing exponentials

Many applications in electrical engineering, signal processing and mathematical physics lead to the following approximation problem: let h be a short linear combination of nonincreasing exponentials

Algorithms for trigonometric polynomial and rational approximation

This thesis presents new numerical algorithms for approximating functions by trigonometric polynomials and trigonometric rational functions. We begin by reviewing trigonometric polynomial

Solving Burgersʼ equation using optimal rational approximations

Application of the AAK theory and Prony‐like Methods for sparse approximation of exponential sums

We derive a new method for optimal ℓ2‐approximation of discrete signals on ℓ2(ℕ0) whose entries can be represented as an exponential sum of finite length. Our approach employs Prony's method in a

The RKFIT Algorithm for Nonlinear Rational Approximation

This paper derives a strategy for the degree reduction of the approximants, as well as methods for their conversion to partial fraction form, for the efficient evaluation, and root-finding, and puts RKFIT into a general framework.
