We study velocity moments of elliptical galaxies in the Coma cluster using Jeans equations. The dark matter distribution in the cluster is modelled by a generalized formula based upon the results of cosmological N-body simulations. Its inner slope (cuspy or flat), concentration and mass within the virial radius are kept as free parameters, as well as the velocity anisotropy, assumed independent of position. We show that the study of line-of-sight velocity dispersion alone does not allow us to… Expand

Dark matter distribution in the Draco dwarf from velocity moments
We study the distribution of dark matter in the Draco dwarf spheroidal galaxy by modelling the moments of the line-of-sight velocity distribution of stars obtained from new velocity data of WilkinsonExpand
Radial velocity moments of dark matter haloes
Using cosmological N-body simulations, we study the radial velocity distribution in dark matter haloes, focusing on the lowest-order even moments, dispersion and kurtosis. We determine the propertiesExpand
The reliability of the kinematical evidence for dark matter: the effects of non-sphericity, substructure and streaming motions
Using cosmological N-body simulations of dark matter haloes, we study the effects of non-sphericity, substructure and streaming motions in reproducing the structure and internal kinematics ofExpand
Mass distribution in nearby Abell clusters
We study the mass distribution in six nearby (z < 0.06) relaxed Abell clusters of galaxies A0262, A0496, A1060, A2199, A3158 and A3558. Given the dominance of dark matter in galaxy clusters, weExpand
Dynamical signatures of infall around galaxy clusters: a generalized Jeans equation
We study the internal kinematics of galaxy clusters in the re gion beyond the sphere of virialization. Galaxies around a virialized cluster are in falling towards the cluster center with a non-zeroExpand
The SLUGGS Survey: breaking degeneracies between dark matter, anisotropy and the IMF using globular cluster subpopulations in the giant elliptical NGC 5846
We study the mass and anisotropy distribution of the giant elliptical galaxy NGC 5846 using stars, as well as the red and blue globular cluster (GC) subpopulations. We break degeneracies in theExpand
The PN.S elliptical galaxy survey: A standard ΛCDM halo around NGC 4374?
As part of our current programme to test ACDM predictions for dark matter (DM) haloes using extended kinematical observations of early-type galaxies, we present a dynamical analysis of the brightExpand
Orbital anisotropy in cosmological haloes revisited
The velocity anisotropy of particles inside dark matter (DM) haloes is an important physical quantity, which is required for the accurate modelling of mass profiles of galaxies and clusters ofExpand
Dark matter in elliptical galaxies — II. Estimating the mass within the virial radius
Elliptical galaxies are modelled with a a 4-component model: Sersic stars, CDM dark matter (DM), a β-model for the hot gas and a central black hole, with the aim of establishing how accurately canExpand
The effect of non-sphericity on mass and anisotropy measurements in dSph galaxies with Schwarzschild method
In our previous work we confirmed the reliability of the spherically symmetric Schwarzschild orbit-superposition method to recover the mass and velocity anisotropy profiles of spherical dwarfExpand

Dark matter distribution in dwarf spheroidal galaxies
We study the distribution of dark matter in dwarf spheroidal galaxies by modelling the moments of their line-of-sight velocity distributions. We discuss different dark matter density profiles, bothExpand

Structure and dynamics in the Coma cluster.
We examine the structure and dynamics of the galaxies in the Coma cluster using a catalog of 552 redshifts including 243 new measurements. The velocity distribution is shown to be non-Gaussian due toExpand
The Distribution of Dark Matter in the Coma Cluster
Limitations on positional and kinematical data for the distribution of dark matter in the Coma cluster are shown to cast doubt on any assumption of a constant M/L ratio. Attention is given to theExpand

It is concluded that the dark matter density profiles, especially in the inner region, are not universal, because of the mass dependence of the inner slope with the primordial index of the fluctuation spectrum. Expand
The Mass Profile of Galaxy Clusters out to ~2r200
We use the public release of 100,000 galaxies from the Two Degree Field Galaxy Redshift Survey (2dFGRS) to analyze the internal dynamics of galaxy clusters. We select 43 noninteracting clusters thatExpand
