We discuss the role Casimir energies may play in addressing issues of moduli stabilization and dark energy. In particular, we examine a (non-supersymmetric) brane world scenario with toroidal extra dimensions in which Casimir energies of bulk fields generate a stabilizing potential for the toroidal volume while driving accelerated expansion in the non-compact directions. We speculate that such a scenario might establish a link between asymmetric topology and asymmetric geometry; that is…

Æther field, Casimir energy and stabilization of the extra dimension
In our five-dimensional cosmological model, we investigate the role of a Lorentz violating vector ``aether" field on the moduli stabilization mechanism. We consider the case of a space-like aether
Dark energy and moduli stabilization of extra dimensions in 1+3 × 2 spacetime
Recently, it was found by Greene and Levin that the Casimir energy of certain combinations of massless and massive fields in space with extra dimensions play a crucial role in the accelerated
Casimir dark energy, stabilization of the extra dimensions and Gauss–Bonnet term
A Casimir dark energy model in a five-dimensional and a six-dimensional spacetime including non-relativistic matter and a Gauss–Bonnet term is investigated. The Casimir energy can play the role of
Radius Destabilization in Five-Dimensional Orbifolds due to AN Enhanced Casimir Effect
One of the challenges in connecting higher dimensional theories to cosmology is stabilization of the moduli fields. We investigate the role of a Lorentz violating vector field in the context of
Radius Destabilization in Five Dimensional Orbifolds from Lorentz Violating Fields
One of the challenges in connecting higher dimensional theories to cosmology is stabilization of the moduli fields. We investigate the role of a Lorentz violating vector field in the context of
Moduli stabilization in a de Sitter compactification model
A bstractWe discuss the moduli stabilization in a de Sitter compactification model obtained coupling D-dimensional gravity to scalar and gauge fields. This class of models is characterized by two

It is suggested that Dark Energy in the Universe originates from the energy of the Black Hole radiation. In particular, this radiation is speculated to be domintaed by the antigravitons associated

Radion stabilization in compact hyperbolic extra dimensions
We consider radion stabilization in hyperbolic brane-world scenarios. We demonstrate that in the context of Einstein gravity, matter fields which stabilize the extra dimensions must violate the null
Dark energy and decompactification in string gas cosmology
We study the stability of extra dimensions in string gas cosmology at late times. Vacuum energy and, interestingly, baryons lead to decompactification after they become dynamically important. The
CASIMIR Effect in a Supersymmetry-Breaking Brane-World as Dark Energy
A new model for the origin of dark energy is proposed based on the Casimir effect in a supersymmetry-breaking brane-world. Supersymmetry is assumed to be preserved in the bulk while broken on a
Contribution of Kaluza-Klein modes to vacuum energy in models with large extra dimensions $&$ the Cosmological constant
In this paper, the generation of topological energy in models with large extra dimensions is investigated. The origin of this energy is attributed to a topological deformation of the standard
On stable compactification with Casimir-like potential
Multidimensional cosmological models with a higher dimensional space-time manifold are investigated under dimensional reduction. In the Einstein conformal frame, the effective potential for the

A Large mass hierarchy from a small extra dimension
We propose a new higher-dimensional mechanism for solving the hierarchy problem. The weak scale is generated from the Planck scale through an exponential hierarchy. However, this exponential arises
Stabilization of submillimeter dimensions: The New guise of the hierarchy problem
A new framework for solving the hierarchy problem was recently proposed which does not rely on low energy supersymmetry or technicolor. The fundamental Planck mass is at TeV and the observed weakness
