The Uncaria tomentosa water extracts (C-Med-100) have been shown to enhance DNA repair, mitogenic response and leukocyte recovery after chemotherapy-induced DNA damage in vivo. In this study, the effect of C-Med-100 supplement was evaluated in a human volunteer study. Twelve apparently healthy adults working in the same environment were randomly assigned into 3 groups with age and gender matched. One group was daily supplemented with a 250 mg tablet containing an aqueous extract of Uncaria…

Figures and Tables from this paper

Quinic acid is a biologically active component of the Uncaria tomentosa extract C-Med 100.

A water soluble extract from Uncaria tomentosa (Cat's Claw) is a potent enhancer of DNA repair in primary organ cultures of human skin

C‐Med‐100, a Cat's Claw water extract, is the only documented natural source of components that can up‐regulate simultaneously both DNA repair and antiinflammation, and its ability to modulate DNA repair in human skin organ cultures was undertaken.

Chemotherapeutical effects of the herbal medicine Uncaria tomentosa (Willd.) DC.

A safe use of this herbal medicine that is available free of charge from the Brazilian Public Health System for the treatment of arthritis is suggested and can also effectively contribute to improving the quality of life and the recovery of people undergoing chemotherapeutical treatments.

Changes in Human Erythrocyte Membrane Exposed to Aqueous and Ethanolic Extracts from Uncaria tomentosa

It is considered that the compounds from U. tomentosa extracts mainly build into the outer, hydrophilic monolayer of the erythrocyte membrane, thus protecting the ERYthrocytes against the adverse effects of oxidative stress.

In Vivo Treatment of Humans with Quinic Acid Enhances DNA Repair and Reduces the Influence of lifestyle Factors on Risk to Disease

It was shown that enhanced repair of DNA using the surrogate estimate of serum thiols correlated by linear regression analyses to the degree and duration of the psychotropic-sensitive lifestyle clinical responses being evaluated.

Treatment with extracts of Uncaria tomentosa promotes apoptosis in the human breast cancer cell line, MCF7.

Treatment of malignant cells and non-malignant cells with Uncaria tomentosa extracts inhibits their proliferation and promotes cell death in a dose-dependent manner and appeared to kill breast cancer cells effectively in vitro by increasing cellular apoptosis.

Preliminary report An extract of Uncaria tomentosa inhibiting cell division and NF-nB activity without inducing cell death

It is confirmed that C-Med 100R, a hot water extract of this plant, inhibits tumor cell proliferation albeit with variable efficiency and it is proposed that retarded cell cycle progression caused the inhibition of proliferation.

Enhanced DNA repair, immune function and reduced toxicity of C-MED-100, a novel aqueous extract from Uncaria tomentosa.

Induction of apoptosis and inhibition of proliferation in human tumor cells treated with extracts of Uncaria tomentosa.

The results provide the first direct evidence for the antitumor properties of Uncaria tomentosa extracts to be via a mechanism of selective induction of apoptosis and the induction of DNA strand breaks coupled to apoptosis.

A statistically significant immune enhancement for the individuals on C-Med-100 supplement was observed by an elevation in the lymphocyte/neutrophil ratios of peripheral blood and a reduced decay in the 12 serotype antibody titer responses to pneumococcal vaccination at 5 months.

DNA damage and repair in tumour and non-tumour tissues of mice induced by nicotinamide.

It is indicated that NAM between 100-1000 mg kg-1 causes a high level of in vivo DNA strand breaks in tumours and normal tissues in mice bearing the immunogenic Sarcoma A12B3 but not in the non-immunogenic sarcoma F, consistent with NAM having a mechanism of action as a radiosensitiser at least in part by DNA repair inhibition.

Pentacyclic oxindole alkaloids from Uncaria tomentosa induce human endothelial cells to release a lymphocyte-proliferation-regulating factor.

Tetracyclic oxindole alkaloids dose-dependently reduce the activity of pentacyclo oxindoles alkaloid on human endothelial cells and proliferation was inhibited significantly while cell viability was not affected.

Mutagenic and antimutagenic activities of Uncaria tomentosa and its extracts.

Evaluation of the in vitro antioxidant activity in extracts of Uncaria tomentosa (Willd.) DC.

Different extracts of U. tomentosa were tested in vitro for their antioxidant activity utilizing tert ‐butyl‐hydroperoxide‐initiated chemiluminescence in rat liver homogenates, preventing TBARS production and free radical‐mediated DNA‐sugar damage.
