A dumbbell shape defected ground structure is proposed to suppress the second and third harmonics of five pole microstrip hairpin band pass filter. Two pairs of dumbbell shaped DGS cells are used at the input and output feed lines of band pass filter. The DGS is operated as a low pass filter to suppress second and third order harmonics.
