In the paper is proposed the design for a sensor based on a new three-hole microstructured optical fiber. The simulations show that the size of the core has a great effect on its applicability on both sensing and transmission. The core of the fiber should have the diameter around 1μm to 6 μm and the experimental results prove that the fabricated optical fiber would make a good sensor with losses measured around 4,5 dB/m.
