Medicinal plants have been considered as promising sources of drugs in treating various cancers. Crinum amabile (C. amabile), a plant species from the Amaryllidaceae family, is claimed to be a potential source for cancer chemotherapeutic compounds. Here, we aimed to investigate the potential of C. amabile as an anticancer agent. Dried leaves of C. amabile were serially extracted and our findings showed that chloroform extract (CE) was shown to exhibit cytotoxic effect against all cancer cell…

Methanolic extract of Pereskia bleo (Kunth) DC. (Cactaceae) induces apoptosis in breast carcinoma, T47-D cell line.
TLDR
The results from this study strongly suggest that the methanol extract of Pereskia bleo may contain bioactive compound(s) that caused breast carcinoma, T-47D cell death by apoptosis mechanism via the activation of caspase-3 and c-myc pathways.
Laboratory Evaluation of Crude Extracts of Cinnamomum tamala for Potential Antibacterial Activity
Emergence of microbial resistance is the one of the major problem nowadays; thus there have been tremendous efforts towards finding new chemicals, specifically herbals, for the development of new…
Combined xanthorrhizol-curcumin exhibits synergistic growth inhibitory activity via apoptosis induction in human breast cancer cells MDA-MB-231
TLDR
These findings provide experimental support to the hypothesis that combined xanthorrhizol-curcumin showed synergistic growth inhibitory activity on MDA-MB-231 cells via apoptosis induction.
Effects of lycorine on HL‐60 cells via arresting cell cycle and inducing apoptosis
TLDR
The finding suggests that lycorine can suppress leukemia growth and reduce cell survival via arresting cell cycle and inducing apoptosis of tumor cells.
Apoptosis induced in human breast cancer cell line by Acanthaster planci starfish extract compared to tamoxifen
TLDR
The Acanthaster planci starfish extract was found to inhibit the growth of MCF-7 cells (IC) and cytotoxic effect and apoptotic effect of tamoxifen was evaluated.
Selective apoptosis-inducing activity of crinum-type Amaryllidaceae alkaloids.
TLDR
Structural-activity relationships demonstrated the requirement for both an alpha-C2 bridge and a free hydroxyl at the C-11 position as pharmacophoric requirements for the selective apoptosis-inducing activity of crinane alkaloids.
Anti-angiogenic effect of furanodiene on HUVECs in vitro and on zebrafish in vivo.
TLDR
It is demonstrated that furanodiene exposure exhibits a potential anti-angiogenic effect through suppression of endothelial cell growth, invasion, migration and tube formation via regulation of the PI3K pathway.
Growth inhibition, G1-arrest, and apoptosis in MCF-7 human breast cancer cells by novel highly lipophilic 5-fluorouracil derivatives
TLDR
Support is provided for the use of these novel compounds as new weapons in the fight against breast cancer by demonstrating induction of apoptosis by the annexin-V-based assay and confirmed using DNA fragmentation analysis on MCF-7 cells.
