Photodynamic therapy (PDT) employs a photosensitizing agent, molecular oxygen, and visible light to generate reactive species that kill tumor and tumor vasculature cells. Nitric oxide produced by these cells could be procarcinogenic by inhibiting apoptosis or promoting angiogenesis and tumor growth.
