Piperidines are a relatively novel class of calcium channel blockers which act at a unique receptor site associated with the calcium channel α1 subunit. Calcium channel blocking affinities ranging from subnanomolar to several hundred micromolar have been reported in the literature, suggesting that piperidine block is highly sensitive to the cellular environment experienced by the channel.
