Cytopathology: a dying art or something that a gastroenterologist should know?

Abstract

a c i r n a i Many gastroenterologists are unaware of the need for learning the basics of cytopathology and its importance in successful EUS-guided FNA. Learning cytopathology is not usually part of the advanced fellowship curriculum. I recently attended a course that focused on endosonographic cytopathology—namely, understanding the basic techniques in preparing slides and preliminary reading aimed to increase diagnostic success with FNA. In this month’s Fellows’ Corner, Dr Shyam Varadarajulu shares with us the tips and tricks of efficient and successful results in FNA technique and the importance of learning cytopathology.
