The polytene chromosomes of 1,612 larvae of three described morphospecies in the Simulium (Gomphostilbia) ceylonicum species group—S. asakoae, S. inthanonense, and S. sheilae—were examined from 52 sites in Thailand. A standard map for the S. ceylonicum group was established. Ten cytoforms, plus an eleventh from the literature, are revealed on the basis of unique suites of fixed and floating inversions; sex chromosomes are microscopically undifferentiated in all cytoforms. A cytodendrogram… Expand
Twenty-one new species of the Simulium (Gomphostilbia) asakoae species group (Diptera, Simuliidae) in Thailand, with their genetic relationships
TLDR
F Females and males reared from pupae, their pupal exuviae and cocoons, and mature larvae of the Simulium (Gomphostilbia) asakoae species group from various localities in Thailand were morphologically examined and the genetic relationships of all but one species were resolved using COI gene sequence-based analysis. Expand
Cytotaxonomy, Morphology and Ecology of the Simulium nobile Species Group (Diptera: Simuliidae) in Thailand
TLDR
The polytene chromosomes of 512 larvae of the Simulium nobile species group collected from 16 stream sites in northern, central and southern Thailand were examined and the morphology of these taxa is described based on the gill filaments and the color of the antennae and female genitalia. Expand
A new species of the Simulium (Gomphostilbia) ceylonicum species-group (Diptera: Simuliidae) from Thailand.
A new black fly species, Simulium (Gomphostilbia) pangsidaense, is described on the basis of adult female, male, pupal exuviae and mature larvae from Pang Sida National Park, Sa Kaew Province,Expand
Description of a New Species of Simulium (Gomphostilbia) (Diptera: Simuliidae) from Cameron's Highlands, Peninsular Malaysia, with Keys to 18 Species of the Simulium asakoae Species-Group
TLDR
The pupa of this new species is characterized by the gill with eight long filaments arranged as (3 + 3 + 2 filaments, of which the ventral pair of filaments is borne on a stalk that is always shorter than the common basal stalk. Expand
[The Molecular Classification Of Blackfly (Diptera: Simuliidae) Species Which Pose a Problem in Nevşehir Part of Central Kızılırmak Basin].
TLDR
Scientific data on the molecular characterization and phylogeny of blackfly species under the S. Wilhelima subgenus which pose a problem in the Central Kızılırmak Basin were provided with this study. Expand
A New Species of Simulium (Gomphostilbia) (Diptera: Simuliidae) from Malaysia, with Keys to 32 Species of the Simulium ceylonicum Species-Group
TLDR
This new species is assigned to the ceylonicum species-group of the subgenus Gomphostilbia, and is characterized by the female and male scuta covered with dark-brown short hairs, smaller number of male upper-eye facets, and presence of shiny paired spots on the male abdominal segments 2–8. Expand
Simulium (Gomphostilbia) taitungense, a new species of black fly (Diptera: Simuliidae) from Taiwan, with description of the male of Simulium (Gomphostilbia) tuenense Takaoka.
TLDR
The male of Simulium (Gomphostilbia) tuenense Takaoka, which was originally described from a pharate pupa and a larva, is described for the first time; the association of the adult stage with the larval stage was confirmed by the comparison of the sequences of the mitochondrial 16S rRNA gene. Expand
A new species of Simulium (Gomphostilbia) (Diptera: Simuliidae) from Northern Thailand, with its genetic relationship in the S. asakoae species-group.
TLDR
A new black fly species, Simulium (Gomphostilbia) kiewlomense, is described from females, males, pupae and mature larvae in Thailand, strengthening the evidence for high species diversity of this species-group. Expand
Descriptions of the female and larva of Simulium (Gomphostilbia) udomi (Diptera: Simuliidae) from Thailand, and its transfer to the Simulium asakoae species-group.
TLDR
The female and larva of Simulium (Gomphostilbia) udomi Takaoka & Choochote from Thailand are described for the first time and transferred to the S. asakoae species-group based on the adult female and male morphological characters, comparisons of the genetic distances and phylogenetic relationships inferred from the COI gene sequences. Expand
Cytogenetics of Simulium siamense Takaoka and Suzuki, 1984 (Diptera: Simuliidae) in northeastern Thailand
TLDR
Significant departures from Hardy–Weinberg equilibrium due to heterozygote deficiency in geographically intermediate populations and absence of shared polymorphic inversions of the cytoforms indicate separation of the gene pool. Expand
