Due to high mercury levels in many Mediterranean aquatic organisms, people who live in this area and consume large amounts of seafood are exposed to a toxicological hazard. A group of 51 fishermen exposed to mercury through eating contaminated seafood from the northern Tyrrhenian Sea underwent cytogenetic monitoring.
