The NLRP3 inflammasome is activated in response to microbial and danger signals, resulting in caspase-1-dependent secretion of the proinflammatory cytokines IL-1β and IL-18. Canonical NLRP3 inflammasome activation is a two-step process requiring both priming and activation signals.
