The sense of olfaction stimulates many vital behaviors in insects. At the molecular level, the interactions between an insect and its olfactory environment are mediated by two families of chemosensory receptors, the olfactory receptors and the ionotropic receptors. In this chapter, we review the current knowledge on olfactory receptors within the Lepidoptera.
