Abstract Chlorochytrium inclusum, occurring in the northwest Pacific on the North American coast as an epiphyte in Schizymenia pacifica, produces quadriflagellate zoospores which, on germination, produce a thallus of Spongomorpha; this Spongomorpha-stage produces biflagellate gametes which, after fusion and germination of a zygote, result in the Chlorochytrium inclusum-stage.
