Cultural evolution is one of the most hotly debated of all concepts in the social and behavioral sciences. There are many reasons for the debate, but some of the most important issues stem from the divergent answers of scholars to three basic questions. These are: what is cultural evolution, in what sense do cultural systems evolve, and what causes cultural microrevolution?
