Histone acetyltransferase coactivators bind to acetylated histones through their bromodomains and catalyze the acetylation of histone H3 and H4 tails for transcriptional activation. C-terminal binding protein (CtBP) serves as a transcriptional corepressor by recruiting histone deacetylases.
