The crystal structures of the title compounds (1,1,2,4,4-7-hexamethyl- and 1,1,4,4,5,7-hexamethyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-6-naphtalenecarbaldehyde, both musks of formula C 17 H 24 O), have been determined by X-ray diffraction. The non-aromatic ring adopts a half-chair conformation with the diad axis passing through the midpoint of the C2−C3 bond and that of the ring-fusion bond C9−C10.
