Human kynurenine aminotransferase II (hKAT-II) efficiently catalyzes the transamination of knunrenine to kynurenic acid (KYNA). KYNA is the only known endogenous antagonist of N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors and is also an antagonist of 7-nicotinic acetylcholine receptors.
