Objective: To investigate the impact of a Croton tiglium extract on cellular proliferation and apoptosis in a non-small cell lung cancer cell line (A549) in vitro. Methods: A Croton tiglium seed methanol extract was prepare and assessed for effects on A549 cells regarding cellular proliferation, apoptotic rates, and expression of apoptosis related genes and proteins using real-time PCR and immunofluorescence. Results: The tested Croton tiglium extract inhibited A549 cell proliferation in a dose…

Metformin promotes apoptosis of A549 cells via regulation of p-AMPK protein expression, bax/bcl-2 ratio and ROS levels

Metformin promotes apoptosis in A549 cells via regulation of p-AMPK protein expression, bax/bcl-2 ratio, and ROS levels, and hence may play a role in lung cancer therapy.

Luteolin induces apoptosis in vitro through suppressing the MAPK and PI3K signaling pathways in gastric cancer

The present results demonstrate that luteolin is a potential chemotherapeutic agent against gastric cancer by exerting a dual inhibition on the MAPK and PI3K signaling pathways.

Inhibition of lung cancer cells and Ras/Raf/MEK/ERK signal transduction by ectonucleoside triphosphate phosphohydrolase-7 (ENTPD7)

ENTPD7 was overexpressed in lung cancer cells and down-regulating ENTPD7 could inhibit lung cancer cell proliferation and promote apoptosis via inhibiting the Ras/Raf/MEK/ERK pathway.

Evaluation of the Biological Efficiency of Silver Nanoparticles Biosynthesized Using Croton tiglium L. Seeds Extract against Azoxymethane Induced Colon Cancer in Rats

C. tiglium nano-extract exhibited ameliorative effect against the biochemical and molecular alterations induced by AOM in nano-Extract post-treated group and prevented anti-Keratin 20 antibody expression in post- treated group.

Anti-apoptosis effect of heme oxygenase-1 on lung injury after cardiopulmonary bypass

CoPP can significantly increase the expression of HO-1 protein in lung tissue, so as to play an important part in anti-apoptosis, and reduce LI.

Potential of Fatty Oils from Traditional Chinese Medicine in Cancer Therapy: A Review for Phytochemical, Pharmacological and Clinical Studies.

Since there are different types and abundance of fatty oils among botanicals, anticancer effects of fatty oil can be achieved through two TCM theory-based strategies.

Automatic Identification of Players in the Flavonoid Biosynthesis with Application on the Biomedicinal Plant Croton tiglium

KIPEs is presented as an automatic approach for the identification of players in the flavonoid biosynthesis and combines comprehensive sequence similarity analyses with the inspection of functionally relevant amino acid residues and domains in subjected peptide sequences.

Antitumor activity of acriflavine in lung adenocarcinoma cell line A549.

Data show that a new candidate drug, acriflavine (ACF), suppresses the viability of A549 cells in a concentration- and time-dependent manner and suggests that ACF is cytotoxic against A549cells and suppresses A549 Cells growth through the caspase-3 activation pathway.

Effect of Withaferin A on A549 cellular proliferation and apoptosis in non-small cell lung cancer.

Withaferin A can inhibit the proliferation and apoptosis of A549 cells by suppressing activation of the PI3K/Akt pathways.

Anti-proliferation effects of isorhamnetin on lung cancer cells in vitro and in vivo.

Iso, a natural single compound isolated from total flavones, has antiproliferative activity against lung cancer in vitro and in vivo and its mechanisms of action may involve apoptosis of cells induced by down- regulation of oncogenes and up-regulation of apoptotic genes.

Afatinib inhibits proliferation and invasion and promotes apoptosis of the T24 bladder cancer cell line.

The results indicate that afatinib inhibits the proliferation and invasion of T24 cells in vitro and induces the apoptosis of these cells by inhibiting the EGFR signaling network.

ent-kaurane diterpenoids from Croton tonkinensis induce apoptosis in colorectal cancer cells through the phosphorylation of JNK mediated by reactive oxygen species and dual-specificity JNK kinase MKK4.

It is suggested that ROS stimulated the phosphorylation of JNK mediated by MKK4 and played a critical role in CeKD-induced apoptosis in colorectal cancer cells, and was inhibited by the antioxidant N-acetyl-L-cysteine.

BCL-2, BAX and P53 expression profiles in endometrial carcinoma as studied by real-time PCR and immunohistochemistry.

The Bcl-2/bax ratio is increased in grade 3 tumors and bax protein shows a strong tendency for expression in the third group of clinical staging (stage IIb, III and IV).

Mutagenicity and tumor-promoting effects of Tiglium seed extract via PKC and MAPK signaling pathways

Tiglium seed has mutagenicity, possibly linking to tumor-promoting potential through the dysfunction of GJIC, and was regulated by phosphorylation of Cx43 via PKC and MAPKs signaling.

Taxol and anti-stathmin therapy: a synergistic combination that targets the mitotic spindle.

It is demonstrated that antisense inhibition of stathmin expression chemosensitizes K562 leukemic cells to the antitumor effects of Taxol and results in a synergistic inhibition of their growth and clonogenic potential.
