The crossover between ideal Josephson behavior and uniform superconducting flow is studied by solving exactly the Ginzburg-Landau equation for a one-dimensional superconductor in the presence of an effective delta function potential of arbitrary strength. As the effective scattering is turned off, the pairs of Josephson solutions with equal current evolve into a uniform and a solitonic solution with nonzero phase offset. It is also argued that a microscopic description of the crossover must…
Superconducting phases and the second Josephson harmonic in tunnel junctions between diffusive superconductors
We consider a planar SIS-type Josephson junction between diffusive superconductors (S) through an insulating tunnel interface (I). We construct fully self-consistent perturbation theory with respect
The absence of charge backscattering in the nonequilibrium current of normal - superconductor structures
We study the nonequilibrium transport properties of a normal - superconductor - normal structure, focusing on the effect of adding an impurity in the superconducting region. Current conservation
Self-consistent current-voltage characteristics of normal-superconductor interfaces
We study the nonlinear transport properties of NS (normal-superconductor) and NSN structures by means of a self-consistent microscopic description. A nonzero superfluid velocity causes the various
Josephson properties of transparent tunnel junctions
With allowance for possible deviations of the current–phase relation from the usual sinusoidal dependence, a modified Ferrell–Prange equation is used to examine the steady-state electrodynamics of
Supercurrent-carrying density of states in diffusive mesoscopic Josephson weak links
Recent experiments have demonstrated the nonequilibrium control of the supercurrent through diffusive phase-coherent normal-metal weak links. The experimental results have been accurately described
Continuous Ginzburg-Landau description of layered superconductors
The behaviour of the order parameter and its effects in intrinsically-layered superconductors are studied within a continuous Ginzburg-Landau model. A simple model of interlayer coupling is proposed
The effect of depairing on the current-phase relation in SIS junctions in the presence of nonmagnetic impurities of arbitrary concentration
The equilibrium current states in superconducting junctions of the superconductor-insulator-superconductor (SIS) type were studied for arbitrary transparency of the dielectric layer and in the
dc Josephson effect with Fermi gases in the Bose-Einstein regime
We show that the dc Josephson effect with ultracold fermionic gases in the Bose-Einstein-condensate (BEC) regime of composite molecules can be described by a nonlinear Schr\"odinger equation (NLSE).
