We study an asymmetric dark matter model with self-interacting dark matter consisting of a Dirac fermion χ coupled to a scalar or vector mediator, such that the reaction χ + χ → χ + χ is well described by perturbation theory. We compute the scattering cross section σ , the transfer cross section σ T , and the viscosity cross section σ V for this reaction. As one part of our study, we give analytic and numerical comparisons of results obtained with the inclusion of both t -channel and u -channel…

Gravothermal evolution of dark matter halos with differential elastic scattering

We study gravothermal evolution of dark matter halos in the presence of differential self-scattering that has strong velocity and angular dependencies. We design controlled N-body simulations to

Chern-Simons Gravity and Neutrino Self-Interactions

Dynamical Chern-Simons gravity (dCS) is a four-dimensional parity-violating extension of general relativity. Current models predict the effect of this extension to be negligible due to large decay

Towards an improved model of self-interacting dark matter haloes

We discuss the relation between the strength of the self-interaction of dark matter particles and the predicted properties of the inner density distributions of dark matter haloes. We present the

The cosmological evolution of self-interacting dark matter

We study the evolution of cosmological perturbations in dark-matter models with elastic and velocity-independent self interactions. Such interactions are imprinted in the matter-power spectrum as

Subhaloes in self-interacting galactic dark matter haloes

We present N-body simulations of a new class of self-interacting dark matter models, which do not violate any astrophysical constraints due to a non-power-law velocity dependence of the transfer

Cosmic particle colliders: simulations of self-interacting dark matter with anisotropic scattering

We investigate how self-interacting dark matter (SIDM) with anisotropic scattering affects the evolution of isolated dark matter haloes as well as systems with two colliding haloes. For isolated

Interacting dark sector and precision cosmology

We consider a recently proposed model in which dark matter interacts with a thermal background of dark radiation. Dark radiation consists of relativistic degrees of freedom which allow larger values

Evaporating the Milky Way halo and its satellites with inelastic self-interacting dark matter

Self-interacting dark matter provides a promising alternative for the cold dark matter paradigm to solve potential small-scale galaxy formation problems. Nearly all self-interacting dark matter

Cosmological simulations with rare and frequent dark matter self-interactions

Dark matter (DM) with self-interactions is a promising solution for the small-scale problems of the standard cosmological model. Here we perform the first cosmological simulation of frequent DM

Halo Properties in Cosmological Simulations of Self-interacting Cold Dark Matter

We present a comparison of halo properties in cosmological simulations of collisionless cold dark matter (CDM) and self-interacting dark matter (SIDM) for a range of dark matter cross sections. We

A Stringent Upper Limit on Dark Matter Self-Interaction Cross Section from Cluster Strong Lensing

We analyze strongly lensed images in 8 galaxy clusters to measure their dark matter density profiles in the radial region between 10 kpc and 100 kpc, and use this to constrain the self-interaction
