Homeotic Hox selector genes encode highly conserved transcriptional regulators involved in the differentiation of multicellular organisms. Ectopic expression of the Antennapedia (ANTP) homeodomain protein in Drosophila imaginal discs induces distinct phenotypes, including an antenna-to-leg transformation and eye reduction.
