A checklist of aquatic Empididae (dance flies) from Croatia (36 species in subfamily Clinocerinae and 14 species in subfamily Hemerodromiinae) is presented, including information related to the Ecoregions in which species were found and specific species traits. Clinocerinae are represented by five genera, with Wiedemannia Zetterstedt being most species rich (20 species) and Clinocerella Engel least numerous with only one species. In Hemerodromiinae there are 8 species of Chelifera Macquart and…
Aquatic dance flies (Diptera, Empididae, Clinocerinae and Hemerodromiinae) of Greece: species richness, distribution and description of five new species
TLDR
The aquatic Empididae fauna of Greece consists of 47 species, with the following described species reported for the first time: Chelifera angusta Collin, Hemerodromia melangynaCollin, Clinocera megalatlantica, Kowarzia plectrum (Mik), Phaeobalia dimidiata (Loew), and the new species are described and illustrated.
High endemicity in aquatic dance flies of Corsica, France (Diptera, Empididae, Clinocerinae and Hemerodromiinae), with the description of a new species of Chelipoda
TLDR
The first description of a new species in the genus Chelipoda from the European–Mediterranean region in more than 180 years is described and illustrated, and new records of aquatic dance flies from Corsica are given, with new data on 17 species in eight different genera.
New Distributional Data for the Rare Polish Empidid Flies (Empididae: Hemerodromiinae, Clinocerinae) in the Pieniny Mountains with Notes on Ecology and Phenology
A study of Hemerodromiinae and Clinocerinae (Diptera: Empididae) in the Pieniny Mts. (Southern Poland) recorded eleven rare species. Two of them are rediscovered in Poland for the first time since
Mayfly (Ephemeroptera) assemblages of a Pannonian lowland mountain, with first records of the parasite Symbiocladius rhithrogenae (Zavrel, 1924) (Diptera: Chironomidae)
Despite increasing numbers of studies on aquatic insects in South-East European streams, there are still gaps in the knowledge about their distribution and assemblage composition in many regions. As
New records of horse-flies (Diptera: Tabanidae) along Neretva River valley and Cetina River in Dalmatia (Southern Croatia)
Study of the horsefly fauna diversity in the area of the Cetina river during 2018 resulted in 23 species records of which Chrysops viduatus (Fabricius, 1794), Atylotus rusticus (Linnaeus, 1767),
Croatian mayflies (Insecta, Ephemeroptera): species diversity and distribution patterns
TLDR
Based on the mayfly assemblage, sampling sites were first structured by ecoregion and then by habitat type, and in comparison with the surrounding countries, the Croatian mayfly fauna is the most similar to the Hungarian and Bosnian fauna.
Checklist of aquatic Diptera (Insecta) of Plitvice Lakes National Park, Croatia, a UNESCO world heritage site
TLDR
The relatively low number of species in certain families and the complete absence of some aquatic families shows that further research into the aquatic Diptera in Plitvice Lakes NP is needed.
Aquatic insects in the Dinarides: identifying hotspots of endemism and species richness shaped by geological and hydrological history using Empididae (Diptera)
We identify local hotspots of elevated species richness and endemicity of aquatic insects in the Dinarides (Balkans) using aquatic Empididae (Diptera) as models and compared observed patterns with
Molecular phylogenetics and biogeography provide insights into the subgeneric classification of Wiedemannia Zetterstedt (Diptera: Empididae: Clinocerinae)
TLDR
A molecular phylogenetic analysis was performed to elucidate relationships within the genus Wiedemannia and found the genus was found to be monophyletic, but most of the subgenera were not.
Distribution and a comparative analysis of the aquatic invertebrate fauna in caves of the western Caucasus
TLDR
The freshwater fauna of nine caves in central Abkhazia, western Caucasus, revealed 35 species of stygo bionts, including 15 new species to be described elsewhere, including15 new species of Stygobionts to be identified elsewhere.
