The immediate response to skin injury is the release of inflammatory signals. It is shown here, by use of cultures of primary keratinocytes from wild-type and PPAR beta/delta(-/-) mice, that such signals including TNF-alpha and IFN-gamma, induce keratinocyte differentiation.
